This painting represents mother earth as the great tree, Gaia. On the left side is everything worth preserving -- the beauty of nature filled with amazing creatures. The tree is rooted in subatomic, atomic, molecular, and cellular levels of matter reaching upward through oceans, stones, soil, grass, forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, air, and atmosphere that nurtures all plants and creatures... The right side of the painting shows humanity's destruction of the web of life, the impact of sucking the energy out of mother earth. A diseased and demonic phallus stands before structures erected to suck dry Gaia's milk for the purpose of power and money. The wasteland of a disposable culture piles high and seeps into the micro-genetic pool, causing disease and defects in the Great Chain of Life.

leaves me speechless. makes clear the choice humanity will one day/ or night innevitaby have to make. asthetically pleasing as well, at least the left side. haha. but to me most important for it's responsible message. The president should hold up this painting, and say..."this on the left side is our goal", "this on the right side is where we honestly are". i, myself was being inspired by working with greenpeace in the late 1980's, and to me this painting really brings home alot of the feelings i felt passionatly during the "summer of '89", 20 years after the first "earth day". so thanx Alex for an important painting of that era. I wish i had known about it sooner, i would have had a copy sooner. beautifull!
