"This painting is called Father and Child. It's a pictorial idea that I've had for a number of decades, and finally have manifested. Sometimes we need to parent ourselves, like maybe there's a frightened child in us that needs comforting. Can we imagine ourselves as that comforting presence? And in this painting, I think of the child as seeing something in the ethers as well, a kind of an archetypal wise old father.
So this is trying to imagine a more ideal kind of archetype of fatherhood, and it's putting a favorable and spiritual glow to it. They're being protected. They're being watched over by a higher power, and the child's being protected from a shadow force that's also there. There's the presence of the protector and the beloved parent." - Alex Grey
